Gerrit Rietveld is known for his progressive approach to furniture design. Taking from his blueprints, I was given the task to build a piece of Rietveld furniture from square one. The first challenge was taking Dutch instructions and translating the measurements in order to build it in ⅓ scale. Once the ⅓ scale model was built, we formed groups and built the full scale. My contributions to the final products fabrication included cutting wood as well as choosing the color scheme, painting, and staining the wood. Skilled craftsmanship and functionality of the final product was required. We ended up with a fully functioning end table that now sits in my bedroom!
